Our Why is Our Mission

At Mobility Rules®, our passion lies in advocating for people. We are an educational and training organization, comprised of dedicated individuals, including real estate and medical professionals. Our mission is to offer insight, ideas, and resources for accessible home features. We strive to create a strong nationwide network of mobility experts and share knowledge with those who need it most. By leveraging our expertise, we aim to empower homebuyers, realtors, and anyone interested in home design—whether traditional, contemporary, or otherwise—to recognize and appreciate the value of an accessible living space. Our ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families through compassion, resources, and education.

Meet Our Founder

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Cathie Ross, the founder of Mobility Rules.

Let me share the story of our company with you. In the year 2000, my beloved grandfather and mentor, Harold Abner Eggen, passed away. His motto, “Always do the right thing and help others,” left an indelible mark on my heart. For over 25 years, I served as a residential home loan professional, assisting countless individuals in realizing the quintessential American Dream of homeownership. But I yearned to go beyond mere transactions.

My curiosity led me to contractor Dave Bearson, a specialist in remodeling homes for accessibility. Together, we visited the home of a client confined to a wheelchair. The simple act of taking a shower had become arduous due to the lack of an accessible bathtub. As I observed Dave, kneeling on one knee, engaging the woman eye-to-eye, and discussing changes that would enhance her life, I felt a profound shift within me. It was the genuine respect Dave showed and the gratitude expressed by his client that moved me deeply.

In 2006, I collaborated with Oregon’s Realtor Multiple Listing Service (RMLS) and the Fair Housing Council of Oregon. Together, we embarked on a mission to provide insights into the housing needs of those with limited mobility. Through the Certified Mobility Consultant (CMC) course and the Top Ten Guidelines for Accessible Living, we aimed to elevate awareness and understanding of what truly makes a home accessible. Our patented Accessibility Ruler became a powerful tool in this endeavor.

Fast-forward to the present day. Outreach and education have never been more crucial. For me, The Human Connection remains paramount. I am passionate about empowering all individuals to find homes that align with their unique needs. Often, the indiscriminate impact of disabilities goes unnoticed. That’s precisely why I created this educational course—to enlighten and inspire people about the profound significance of accessibility within our homes.
