About Mobility Rules
Mobility Rules is an educational platform that teaches people about accessible home design. We’re made up of real estate professionals, medical experts, and accessibility specialists working together to share practical knowledge and resources.
Our mission is simple: help buyers, realtors, builders, and homeowners understand how smart, accessible features can improve quality of life, whether you’re designing a new home or updating an existing one. Through education and training, we’re building a nationwide network of mobility experts so everyone can make better, more inclusive housing choices.
Meet our Founder
I’m Cathie Ross, founder of Mobility Rules. For over twenty-five years, I’ve helped families buy homes, but my real passion has always been helping people live safely and with dignity in those homes.
That passion became personal in 2000 when I witnessed a woman struggling daily in a home that was supposed to be accessible. Watching contractor Dave Bearson kneel to speak with her at eye level and transform her bathroom showed me the power of compassion and human connection. That same year, I lost my grandfather, whose motto, “always do the right thing and help others,” became my guiding principle.
In 2005. I began working with the Fair Housing Council of Oregon to educate housing professionals about the needs of people with limited mobility. That work led me to create the Certified Mobility Consultant program, which now trains real estate and building professionals across the U.S. and Canada.
Mobility Rules exist because accessibility is about more than rules and measurements; it’s about people.
History of Mobility Rules®
• Founded in 2000 as Bridges to Mobility with one goal: helping people liveindependently in supportive homes.
• In 2004, secured a HUD grant with the Fair Housing Council of Oregon to bring
accessibility information into the Multiple Listing Service.
• Created the Certified Mobility Consultant program, the patented Top Ten Accessibility Guidelines, and our signature ruler tool.
• Expanded nationwide, training real estate and building professionals across the U.S.
and Canada.
• In 2023, partnered with WFG National Title to host powerful education events featuring real stories from people living with disabilities.
• In 2026, completely rebuilt our 20-year-old website to better serve our growing
community.
• Today, we’re building a movement where realtors, builders, and homeowners can all
play a part in creating more inclusive living spaces.
